John Joseph "J.J." Brazell, 40, of Blythewood, died Monday, August 29, 2016. Born July 18, 1976 in Columbia, he was a son of Joseph Layton Brazell, Sr., and Sheila Jo Rosier Derrick. An avid Gamecock fan, J.J. loved fishing and hunting, and adored his children and family. He was a warrior of cancer and fought to the end. Mr. Brazell was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Brazell; daughters, Shelby Lynne Brazell, Rebecca LeAnne Brazell, and Elayna Taylor; sons, Ethan Taylor and Erik Taylor; mother, Sheila Derrick (Bobby); father, Jody Brazell (Jackie); brothers, Ron Brazell (Shannon), Joey Brazell (Heather); sisters, Kathy Wood, Mary Brazell and Grace Nettles (Andrew Robles); maternal grandmother, Jeannette Rosier; maternal grandfather, Mike Fallaw; godson, Junior Brazell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 11 o'clock, Thursday, September 1st at Celestial Memorial Gardens, 3111 Delree Street, West Columbia, with the Rev. Douglas Self officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock, Wednesday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
