John Robert Nick, Sr., 87, of Columbia, died Monday, February 08, 2016. Born in Mullins, SC, on June 13, 1928, to the late George Nick Sr. and Grace Lewis Nick, he retired from Bankers Life and Casualty with more than 30 years of service. Mr. Nick was an avid hunter, a veteran of the US Coast Guard and attended Wash Lever Road Home Church.

Mr. Nick is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Faulkenberry Nick; daughter, Melissa Breed (Jeffrey) of Lexington; son, John Robert Nick Jr. (Mary) of Columbia; grandchildren, Vachon Martin (Calvin), Amanda Nick, and Laura Bourdeau (Nate); great grandchildren, John Wyatt Bourdeau and Jonah Allgood Martin; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Rogers, Debbie Jones (Kenneth), and Jean Spanos. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Robert A. Bullock, Jr.; brother, George Nick, Jr.; sister, Mildred Dixon; and step mother, Mabel Nick.

A service will be held at 1 o'clock Thursday, February 11th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia conducted by Pastor David Bentley. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
