Captain John Erie Price, 88, of Blythewood, died Tuesday, September 25, 2012. Born April 10, 1924 in Richland County, he was a son of the late Letcher E. Price and Annie Taylor Price.
Captain Price retired after 30 years of faithful law enforcement service, primarily with the Richland County Sherriff's Department. He was a veteran of the US Army and was a member of Pine View Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Price; a son, Tony Price of Columbia; daughters, Carol (Lynn Baughman) Monteith of Lexington, Jennifer Merkt of Winnsboro; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Boyd (Ernestine) Price. In addition to his parents, Captain Price was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanette W. Price.
A funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock, Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Pine View Baptist Church, 111 Pineview Church Road, Blythewood, with The Rev. Charles Miller and The Rev. Jacob Helsley officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery, Blythewood. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Rockville, MD 20582, or to the Richland County Sherriff's Foundation, Attention Sherriff Lott, P. O. Box 143, Columbia, SC 29202, designate to the "Vest Program". Shives Funeral Home of Columbia is assisting the family.
