John William Rabon, of 9351 Monticello Road, died Tuesday at Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge Hospital. Born January 17, 1931 in Columbia, he was the son of the late Joe William and Sophie Howell Rabon. Mr. Rabon was a Korean Conflict veteran having served in the Navy on the USS Earnest G. Small (DDR 838). He was a lifelong barber in the St. Andrews area.
He enjoyed NASCAR, and Gamecock sports. He loved to pick and tease. His favorite target were the waitresses at the Waffle House.
He is survived by his daughter, Katherine Riedel (Gary) of Portales, NM; son, Joe Rabon of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Mrs. Olivia Lorraine West (Casey) of Clovis, NM, Daniel W. Boan of Fort Polk, LA, Gina M. Riedel of Portales, NM and Mattie M. Rabon of Sioux Falls, SD; two great grandchildren, Gavin and Aspyn West. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Joyce L. Rabon; brother, Howell Rabon; sister, Margaret Weed Sessoms along with three aunts dearest to his heart, Donna O. Howell, Annie Rabon Thornton and Ethel Starnes Love.
The graveside service for Mr. Rabon will be held Saturday, August 22, 2015 at five o'clock at Cedar Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at three o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia.
