Mr. John Morgan Sellers, 90, of Columbia, died Tuesday, June 16, 2015. Born in Hazlehurst, GA, he was a son of the late Lemmuel Lafayette Sellers and Maxie Mincey Sellers. After high school, Mr. Sellers served in the US Army during WWII and received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Following discharge, he moved to Columbia, SC and worked with the Rock Quarry in Rion, SC. He retired from Owens Electric & Steel, and also worked for a short period at Gibbs Machinery. He was an active member of Eau Claire Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and was always willing to help with any and all church activities. He was also a member of the Eau Claire Masonic Lodge #344, the Pomaria Masonic Lodge # 151. He was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Sellers is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Wanell S. Sellers; daughter, Patricia (Ronnie) Thrailkill; grandchildren, Charles M. "Chuck" Boynton Jr., John Gregory Sellers Boynton, Jennifer Thrailkill, Julie Ann Abston Coats, and Joey Abston; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Abston, Charlie and Catie Coats, Cody, Kelsey, Emma, Willow, Theresa, Liam, and Kyley Boynton, and Bryson Long; as well as a sister-in-law, Edna Mae Sellers. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sellers was preceded in death by his daughter, Nell Sellers Abston; brothers, Elmer "Buddy" and Martin Sellers; and sisters, Gladys Griffin and Donnelle Faircloth.
The funeral service for Mr. Sellers will be held eleven o'clock, Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Eau Claire Baptist Church with The Rev. James A. Goudelock officiating. The family will receive friends, prior to the service, beginning at ten o'clock at the church. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Eau Claire Baptist Church, 4427 N. Main Street, Columbia, SC 29203 or to the Alzheimer's Association, SC Chapter, 140 Stoneridge Drive, Suite 210, Columbia, SC 29210.
