Obituary

Mr. Johnie Hodge, 98, of Columbia, died Monday, September 8, 2014. Born in Marion County, SC on September 22, 1915, he was the son of the late John C. and Ella Hines Hodge.

A longtime member of Jackson Creek Baptist Church, Johnie was also a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. After serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, he worked for 37 ½ years at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

He is survived by his sons, Johnny Milton (Linda) Hodge of Chapin, James "Neil" (Rachel) Hodge of Elgin; grandchildren, Leah Rebecca Hodge of Lexington, Johnie O'Neil Hodge of Columbia; as well as four nieces, Evelyn, Grace, Dora, and Bertha. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Boatwright Hodge; sister, Julia Hodge Williams; and nephews, David, Jim, Joe, J.P., Donnie, and Johnny.

A funeral service for Mr. Hodge will be held 2 o'clock Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, with The Reverend James Strole officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock. The family requests that memorials be made to Harvest Hope, 2220 Shop Rd, Columbia, SC 29201.
