Joseph Marion Alderman, 73, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022, at the Elizabeth House. Born in Columbia, SC, on December 15, 1948, he was the son of the late Joseph Herbert and Marjorie Stabler Alderman. Marion was a dedicated, long-time member of The Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Marion was the loving husband, of 21 years, to Mrs. Paula Massey Alderman. He was a graduate from Eau Claire High School and received his accounting degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Marion pursed a career with Bell South and AT&T, where he worked as a lineman for nearly 40 years and received employee of the year.

Marion had a passion for aviation and became a pilot of both planes and helicopters. He began flying at the early age of 18 years old. In his spare time, he enjoyed snow-skiing, water-skiing, and hiking in the National Parks. He was a true outdoorsman and loved any outdoor adventure.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his stepsons, Jeffrey Lax (Sheri) and Michael Lax; grandchildren, Analise Milne (Rory), Isaac Lax, and Alaina Lax; sister, Miriam Alderman Grooms (Donald); nieces, Donna Ann Franklin (Carl) and Pamela McElveen (Dennis); nephews, Donald Grooms (Pamela), Gary Grooms, and Richard Galloway; and many loving great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Carolyn Alderman Galloway.

The funeral service for Mr. Alderman will be held at 2 o'clock on Tuesday, March 22nd, at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Officiating the service is Pastor Phillip Roberts. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 12 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC 29223.
