Joseph A. Monaghan, Jr., 74, of Blythewood, died Sunday, August 14, 2022. Born July 21, 1948, in Welch, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Joseph A. Monaghan, Sr. and Mae Elizabeth Schrader Monaghan.
Mr. Monaghan was a US Army veteran that honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. During his two tours of duty, he received a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Silver Star, National Service Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, and an Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Monaghan was employed as a computer specialist for the Internal Revenue Service for more than 20 years. He enjoyed golf and was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne M. Monaghan; daughter, Elizabeth Monaghan; grandson, Xavier McDonough; as well as his siblings, Patrick, Edwin, Jackson, Michael, and Sara.
