Mrs. Joyce Marie Rodgers Estridge, 87, wife of the late Furman Calhoun (F.C.) Estridge, Jr., passed away Wednesday, November 15th, 2023. Born February 6, 1936, in Bethune, SC, she was a daughter of the late Emory Singleton Rodgers and Annie Mae Deese.
She was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church for over 50 years. There Joyce participated and volunteered in many activities and groups. She was known for her gentle spirit, and witty sense of humor. Joyce encouraged others to attend church and enjoyed sending cards and letters to everyone. She loved to work in her rose garden, travel with the church and spend time with her family. Joyce spent most of her summers at Edisto Island, SC and enjoyed trips to Lake Murray with her family. She was a member of the University of South Carolina football fan club and traveled to many out of state games with them.
Survivors include her three daughters, Kathy Dickey of Mount Pleasant, SC, Sandy Chitty (Faust) of Mount Pleasant, SC and Lisa Honea (Kent) of Bradenton, FL; four grandchildren, Kaitlin Calhoun Thornton (Eric); Scott Alexander Dickey, Jr., (Madeline), Landon Chitty Buckheister (Bryce) and Madeline Chitty Matanick, (Tyler); three great-grandchildren, Henry and Sterling Buckheister and Zeppelin Matanick; her brothers, Rabon Rodgers, Aaron Rodgers, Bruce Rodgers (Joann) and Kent Rodgers (Vivian); sisters, Joann Morrissette and Coletta Woods (Warren); as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce is preceded in death by her sisters, Vaudearie Anderson, Christine, Broughton and Francis Horton.
A visitation for Mrs. Estridge will be held Tuesday, November 21st at 10:30am at North Trenholm Baptist Church, 6515 N. Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206, followed by a celebration of life at 11:30 am. The burial will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229.
