Joye P. Hughes, 84, of Irmo, South Carolina, beloved wife, mother, sister, Grammy, and friend, died at home on April 10, 2026. A service will be held on Tuesday, April 21, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6952 St. Andrews Rd, Irmo. The family will receive friends following the service from 3:30-5:00 p.m. at 125 Shorebreeze Drive, Irmo, SC.
Mrs. Hughes, daughter of Clarence Patterson Padgett and Majorie Gray Padgett, was born in Saluda, SC, on June 21, 1941. She married James B. Hughes in 1963 and embraced her calling as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her enduring faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is what gave her purpose and identity in every season of her life. She cherished God’s faithful character, trusting Him to provide strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, and her brother, Raymond Patterson Padgett, Sr., and his wife Shirley. She is survived by her children, Sabrina (John) Barr, Darra (Skip) Irish, and Gregory (Stefanie) Hughes; her grandchildren, Morgan Barr (Caroline), Austin Irish (Ashley Marler – fiancé), Emily Irish Brock (Thompson), Thomas Barr (Audrey), Rebecca Grace Barr, Kate Hughes, Davis Hughes; her great-grandchildren, Charles and James Brock, Margaret and Elizabeth Barr; her sister, Casandra Padgett Parton (Carl); her sister-in-law Annette Hughes Kirby; and many nephews and a niece.
