Obituary

Mr. Julian Wilson Walker, Jr., 90, of Columbia, SC, died Tuesday, August 27, 2024. He was born in Charleston, SC, on February 7, 1934 and was a son of the late Mr. Julian W. Walker, Sr. and the late Mrs. Catherine Hutchinson Walker.

He graduated as Salutatorian from Charleston High School. He then went on to graduate from the University of the South, Sewanee in 1956. He received his law degree from Duke University Law School in 1959. He worked in trust department banking with First National Bank, both Charleston and Columbia offices, as well as South Carolina National Bank. He retired with Wachovia in 1994. After retiring, Mr. Walker practiced law in Columbia during the next three years with two different well-established firms. He then engaged in the solo private practice of law in Columbia concentrating on trust and estate administration and as a consulting/testifying trustee expert.

He was a lead organizer of the Red Kettle Campaign with the Salvation Army in the midlands. He was Chairman of the Board of Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, where his children and grandchildren attended. He was particularly devoted to the development of the sports fields at Heathwood. He served on the Board of Directors for the Epilepsy Foundation and for the Friends of the Library. He will be well remembered as a lay reader at Trinity Episcopal Church because of his deep, resonating voice. He had a deep love for the family pets and an abiding love for his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his two wonderful children, Julian Wilson Walker, III "Jay" and Elizabeth Watt Walker Graham; two beloved grandsons, Michael Hampton Graham Jr. (Katie) and Walker Sterling Graham (Julia); and his brothers, Larry Walker and Wallace Walker, both of Charleston.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel is assisting the family.
