June Metz, 101, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2022. She was born in Calumet, Michigan. June was a dedicated member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Columbia, South Carolina.
June graduated from Northern Michigan University, where she received her bachelor's degree. She was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and served in World War II. June was active in her community and a member of The Lutheran Church Women, The League of Women Voters, Great Decisions, and The American Association of University Women.
In her free time, June enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Her servant's heart led her to serve many years with Meals on Wheels. June was a leader for the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts. She had a passion for serving others and making a difference.
She is survived by her children, Curtis Metz, Cynthia Metz, Kenneth Metz (Ruth), and Julia Walker (Don); along with three grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Dr. Kenneth Irving Metz.
The graveside service for Mrs. Metz will be held at 11 o'clock on Saturday, August 13th, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 1301 Richland Street, Columbia, SC. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
