Obituary

June Wilson Williford, 95, of Columbia died Sunday, July 2, 2017. Born March 12, 1922 to the late Charles Montgomery Wilson, Sr. and Essie Waddell Wilson, she was one of eleven children raised on her father's tobacco farm in Effingham, South Carolina. June worked for Southern Bell as a telephone operator in her younger days before marrying the late C. Marvin Williford Jr., on February 19, 1944. After moving to Columbia, South Carolina with her husband, June was employed by Piggly Wiggly for many years before her retirement from the Fresh Market, at the age 83. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend to all.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Williford Corley (Rod); granddaughters, Angela Corley Shivley (Matthew), Heather Williford Gentry; great-grandson, Landon Thomas Shivley; great-granddaughter, Megan Nicole Gentry; a sister, Betty Wilson Dennis (Charles); sister-in-law, Catherine Wilson as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, and husband, June is preceded in death by sons, Charles Wayne Williford and Ronald Lynn Williford; sisters, Myrna Berry Batts, Grace Truluck Mims, Edith Allen, Mildred Clark; brothers, Brutus, Ray, Jack, Paul and Charles Wilson.

A graveside service for Mrs. Williford will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, July 8th at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 7100 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, with Dr. Max Rogland officiating. Memorials may be made to the Gideon's International, P.O Box 140800 Nashville, TN, 37214-0800. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
