Karen Cody Brodka, 65, of Blythewood, died peacefully on Sunday, January 30, 2022 with her husband by her side. Born in Columbia, SC, on September 4, 1956, she was a daughter of Harold Robert Burg and Mary Key Niggel Escue. Karen attended Spring Valley High School and Columbia College. She was passionate about painting, gardening, and photography. Karen loved the outdoors and was active for many years rescuing animals in need. Among other roles, Karen worked with her stepfather at Escue Distribution as an office manager.

In addition to her father, mother and step-mother, Jocelyn Burg, survivors include her husband, Francis (Frank) Marion Brodka, III; siblings, Katherine Renee Snyder (Wayne), of Charlotte, NC; Nancy Escue Glasgow, of Mount Pleasant, SC; Harold Robert Burg, III (Belinda), of Weston, FL, John Edward Burg (Becca), of Columbia, SC and Stefanie Burg Chase (Tom) of Greenville, SC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Karen was preceded in death by her stepfather, George William (Bill) Escue.

The graveside service for Karen will be held at 1 o'clock, Wednesday, February 2nd, at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery, 511 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, with Pastor Matt Benton officiating. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
