Katharine "Trina" Thorne Carter passed away on November 23, 2025 following a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on March 9, 1958 to Katharine Fulmer and John Calvin Thorne.
Trina attended Heathwood Hall Episcopal Kindergarten in Columbia, graduated from Coastal Academy in Myrtle Beach in 1976, attended Converse College, and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1980, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. In 1985, she received a Master's degree in Audiology from The University of South Carolina and practiced audiology at the Columbia Speech and Hearing Clinic and several ear, nose and throat groups in Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.
In 2002, Trina founded Columbia Audiology Group, genuinely caring for her patients for 18 years. She was a member of The South Carolina Academy of Audiologists, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, The Junior League of Columbia, Forest Lake Club, Pine Tree Hunt Club, The Columbia Ball, and Quadrille Club.
Trina had a gift for forming lasting friendships. Her love of animals, especially her dog Rudy, along with her enthusiasm for life and people, made her especially lovable and so much fun to be around. When her granddaughters were born, she affectionately referred to them as "her heart."
Trina was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 25 years, William Blaine Carter. She is survived by her daughter Lucille Austin Glenn (Chris); granddaughters Ella Katharine Clark, Austin Clark, Lily Glenn and Mary Glenn; brothers, John Calvin Thorne III (Mary Bett) and Roland Edward Fulmer Thorne (Karen); and sister, Lucille Frost Thorne.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care and support provided by Hospice and the staff at Still Hopes.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral on Saturday, December 6th, with a visitation immediately following at Satterlee Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Still Hopes, One Still Hopes Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169; the Alzheimer's Association, Alzheimer's Association (National Capital Area Chapter), 8180 Greensboro Drive, Suite 400, McLean, VA 22102 or a charity of one's choice.
