Kathleen Jones Carter was born in Pond Creek, Kentucky on August 19, 1928 and was a daughter of the late Albert and Grace Jones. She attended Belfry High School in Belfry, Kentucky. She said the best subject was "skipping school." She also attended Salisbury State College for one year. At a young age, she took tap dancing and learned to play the mandolin. Her Dad, Albert was one of the best square dance callers in Pond Creek, Kentucky.

She was married to Paul Carter on May 28, 1948 in Pikeville, Kentucky. They were wed for 38 years. He was a driver for Trailways Bus Company and General Manager for 20 years. They lived in Salisbury, Maryland. It is here where Donna lived with them; Norfolk, Virginia; Baltimore, Maryland and settled in Columbia, South Carolina in 1961. After his tenure with Trailways, he went to work for The State of South Carolina as Transportation Supervisor until his death in 1988.

Kathleen was a homemaker and did not work until she came to Columbia, South Carolina. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant by Pediatrics Associates of Columbia, with Dr. J. William Hammond and Dr. Casells. Kathleen enjoyed being in the mountains of Kentucky, especially at the Pond Creek Reunion with her dear friends and family. She was involved in the Richland County School District reading program and was the Treasurer of the North 21 Terrace Neighborhood Associations for many years. She loved being involved in her church with the women's circle and dinners.

Kathleen was a member of the Leisure Club at College Place Church. She was involved in local square-dancing groups with her friends. She and Paul were members of St. Luke United Methodist Church and later after his death, she became a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Columbia, until her illness took her away. Her most memorable trait is that of love of her family and friends, and her loving and caring heart. Most of all, she loved her cats: Cricket, Carson, and Lola, and her dogs: Ellie, Bubba, and Andy.

She is survived be her Goddaughter, Donna L. Thomas (Larry) of Princess Anne, Maryland; niece, Shiela Shrieves of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and nephew, Harold Carter of Valdosta, Georgia. Her dear friends; Bettie Lou McCormick of West Virginia, Arlene and Darrell Robinson, and Cindy and Claude Leitner; her caregiver "CJ" Cathy Jeffcoat and her loving companion, "Lola." She was predeceased by her loving husband, Paul Carter; brothers, Clarence "Buddy" Jones and Alan Keith Jones; her loving pets, Cricket, Carson, Ellie, Bubba and Andy.

A special Thank You to the Amedisys Hospice for their attention to her care and the family.
