Kathleen "Kathy" Gamble Payne, 75, of Chapin, died Wednesday, July 6, 2022. Born June 5, 1947, in Florence, SC, she was a daughter of the late William Edward Gamble and Eleese Tiller Gamble.

Kathy was a graduate of The University of South Carolina where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She enjoyed a long and rewarding career at Richland Memorial Hospital that spanned over five decades. Kathy was a devout Christian woman who always placed her faith in the Lord. She attended Belin United Methodist Church in Murrells Inlet, SC, as well as Lake Murray Presbyterian Church in Chapin. Kathy enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, cooking, and reading. Her nurturing demeanor, radiant personality, and excellent sense of humor will be greatly missed by all in her life. Kathy's greatest joy was her family. She especially loved to spoil her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Ashley Sawyer Stallings of North Augusta, SC, and Henry Todd Sawyer (Kelly) of Irmo; grandchildren, John Lewis "Trey" Stallings, III, William Sawyer "Will" Stallings, and Eleese Marie Sawyer; sisters, Ellen Gamble Baker (Hubert "Boo") and Donna Gamble Foster (Lang). She is also survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Henry Sawyer; husbands, Kerry Payne and Durwood Barton; as well as her brother, William Edward Gamble, Jr.

The memorial service for Kathy will be held at 4 o'clock Wednesday, July 13th at Lake Murray Presbyterian Church, 2721 Dutch Fork Rd, Chapin, SC 29036. The family will greet friends at the church prior to the memorial service beginning at 3 o'clock.
