Kathryn Mae Richards Barron, 88, of Columbia, died Monday, December 10, 2018. Born January 17, 1930, in Durham, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Caswell Richards and Lizzie Underwood Richards.
A member of Eau Claire Presbyterian Church since 1953, Kathryn was a choir member, soloist, Sunday School teacher, president of WIC, a librarian and the church historian for many years. For over 25 years she taught at Eau Claire and Trinity Episcopal Churches as a Kindergarten Teacher. Every child that she saw brought a smile to her face. Kathryn also donated to various causes and was always willing to help her family and friends. She was active with Operation Christmas Child, and she sponsored several children through Compassion International. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Survivors include her three sons, John C. Barron (Robin) of Columbia, SC, Richard I. Barron (Teresa) of Rabun Gap, GA, and Michael G. Barron (Tommy) of Carlsbad, CA; seven grandchildren, J. Matthew Barron, Mark C. Barron, Whitney R. Barron, David I. Barron, Richard T. Barron, Breanna J. Norton and Bethany Biter; five great grandchildren, Kailee, Madison, Hannah, Noah and Jonathan; sister, Jacqueline R. Weatherspoon of NC, and brother, Douglas C. Richards (Linda) of NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Ingram Barron III; sister, Lucy R. Herndon and brother, Robert R. Richards.
The funeral service for Mrs. Barron will be held 11 o'clock, Saturday, December 15th, at Eau Claire Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tim Burden officiating. Burial will follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, December 14th from 6 until 8 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC.
