Kenneth Alvin Brown, 77, of Columbia, SC, died on Sunday, October 20, 2024. Born on March 3, 1947, in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late Alvin Berry Brown and the late Annie Brown Frier.
Ken's zest for life was evident in every chapter of his journey. He grew up in Columbia, SC, and finished Dreher High School. Soon after, he served in the Navy for two years as a Yeoman, where he received the National Defense Service Medal. From his early days as a clerk for the FBI, he worked tirelessly obtaining his undergraduate degree from Charleston Southern University to complete the requirements for becoming a Special Agent and a first-generation college graduate. Mississippi was his first assignment as a Special Agent. After two years, he transferred to New York City, where his work mainly focused on Organized Crime. His most significant achievement was the arrest of a top ten fugitive. Spending fourteen years in New York with the Bureau was a highlight of his life. In 1992, he returned to his home state of South Carolina and eventually retired in 1997. Yet, his passion did not stop there; he later founded DT Private Investigative Company Inc., continuing his mission of safety and justice. In his final years, he contributed to government contracting, applying his wealth of experience to serve his community and beyond.
Beyond his professional achievements, his greatest gifts were friendship and his generous spirit. His many longtime friends adored him, and he cherished them just as deeply. Many stories abound of his rich and admirable zest for life. He was an exceptional storyteller with a sense of humor that brought laughter and joy to everyone who knew him. With his family and friends, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, golfing, and his much-adorned South Carolina Gamecocks. Ken was proud of his family and cherished his wife, children, grandsons, and dog, Sadie. His warmth and kindness touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Ken will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and zest for life will live on in the hearts of those he left behind.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Camille Taylor Brown; two daughters, Mindy Tucker (Andrew) of Columbia, and Lindsey Gorham of Greenville; two grandsons, Wyatt Tucker, and Grady Tucker; and sister, Valerie Chaney.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Brown; two sisters, Betty Breedlove, and Lib Hatchell; and son-in-law, Matthew Gorham.
