Kenneth Wayne Tyler, 67, of Elgin, died on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Born on May 4, 1959, in Clayton, Georgia, Kenneth was the son of Johnny Franklin Tyler and Betty Jean Watts Tyler. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Kenneth faithfully served his country and continued a life of service through his career as a nurse in the healthcare field. During his time in the military, he worked in a military hospital at a training base and later worked in a unit specializing in cardiac care. He graduated from North Georgia College obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Kenneth was a devoted member of Shandon Baptist Church, where he lovingly taught Sunday School to babies through age five for many years. He found joy in simple pleasures and treasured time spent with those he loved most, especially on annual family trips to Jekyll Island. Kenneth enjoyed hunting, fishing, college football and spending time in the North Georgia mountains.

He is survived by, his mother, Betty Jean Watts Tyler; his wife of 45 years, Michelle Suzanne Tyler; sons, Jason Tyler (Sarah) of Knoxville, TN, and Justin Tyler (Jewel) of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Maddox, Addie, Charlie, Hadley, and Ryan; brother, Johnny Tyler; in-laws, Senga Veale (Tom), Mike Newton (Penny), Tracey Martin (Ron), Rebecca Mallory, David Newton (Geoff); aunt, Carol Giedinghagen; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Franklin Tyler; siblings, Bobby Tyler and Sandra Tyler; and sister-in-law, Carol Newton.

A memorial service to honor Mr. Tyler’s life will be held at 3 o’clock on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Shives Funeral Home, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext. Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

A committal service will be held at 3 o’clock on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC.
