Obituary

Lanny Dean Skinner, 58, of Columbia, died Thursday, July 31, 2014. Born in Boiling Springs, NC, he was a son of Benjamin Joel Skinner and the late Ruby Tallent Skinner. Lanny was a longtime friend of the Robert Burns Society of the Midlands and the Palmetto Pipes and Drums. He also was a volunteer staff member at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, a founding member of the Tartan Day South Highland Games in Columbia, and was very active in Scottish entertainment events and at Delaney's Music Pub. Lanny was a member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church where he truly enjoyed fellowship and worship.

Survivors include his sons, Jared L. Skinner and wife Nicole of Elgin, Justin Skinner of Charlotte; brothers, Danny Skinner of Columbia, Scott Skinner and wife Pam of Boiling Springs, NC; niece Lindsay Skinner; nephew, Josh Skinner; granddaughters, Bethany, Briley, Ashlynn, and Brooklyn; grandsons, Dillin, and Michael. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Barry Lynn Skinner.

A service for Mr. Skinner will be held at 2 o'clock, Wednesday, August 6th at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. Ellen Skidmore officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. Additionally, a service will be held at 3 o'clock, Saturday, August 9th, at Trinity Baptist Church, 746 Trinity Road, Mooresboro, NC, with The Rev. Mike Frazier officiating. The family requests memorials in Lanny's memory be made to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 North Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206.
