Larry Wilson Preslar, 73, of Columbia, died Thursday, May 29, 2014. Born September 7, 1940 in Hickory, NC, he was a son of the late Max Preslar and Dorothy Harris Preslar. Larry was a longtime institutional food salesman, having 23 years of service with Bigger Brothers of Charlotte, and 21 years of service with Sysco Foods. He was an active member of Reformation Lutheran Church where he held various leadership roles over 44 plus years. Larry was a member of American Legion Post #6, Scottish Rites, Boyleston Masonic Lodge #123 of Ballentine, and a longtime member of the USC Gamecock Club.
Survivors include his wife of more than 50 years, Gloria Smith Preslar; daughter, Amy Leigh Preslar and partner, Alicia Davis of Asheville, NC; granddaughters, Carly Paige Seif of Hickory, NC and Isabella Rayne Preslar of Asheville, NC; brothers, Dr. Wayne Preslar of Fayetteville, NC, and Ronald Preslar (Betsy) of Hickory, NC; brother-in-law, Gary Smith (Pat) of Hickory, NC; nephews, David Preslar of CA and Todd Smith (Susan) of Claremont, NC; several aunts; and numerous cousins.
The funeral service for Mr. Preslar will be held 3 o'clock, Sunday, June 1st, at Reformation Lutheran Church, 1118 Union Street at the corner of River Drive, Columbia, SC with The Rev. Timothy Bupp officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery with Masonic funeral rites. The family will receive friends at the church Sunday from 1:30 until 2:45 o'clock. A reception will follow the burial in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Reformation Lutheran Church.
