Laura Daniels Castles, 89, of Florence, formerly of Lexington, died Wednesday, November 8, 2017. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Preston A. Daniels and Ruby Olivia O'Cain Daniels and married to the late James Fred Castles, Jr. Mrs. Castles was very involved in the Order of the Eastern Star and her church, Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church, Lexington. A graduate of the old Columbia High School, she attended Columbia Commerical College and retired from SCE&G in 1986 as a secretary. She and her husband were faithful Clemson fans and members of IPTAY. They did not have children of their own, but Mrs. Castles was known as "Kiki" to her many nieces and nephews, whom she called, "my children." She dearly loved animals and her special loves were her dogs, Dollie and Brandy and her cat, Callie.
Survivors include her brothers, Preston A. Daniels of Blythewood, Don O. Daniels (Kathleen), Sr. of Blythewood, and John Earl Daniels, Sr. of Florence; 10 nieces and nephews; 19 great nieces and nephews; and several great, great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sister, Eudora D. Harmon; and brother, William B. "Jackie" Daniels; sisters-in-law, Pat Daniels, Shirley Daniels; and brother-in-law, Frank E. Harmon.
A graveside service will be held 1 o'clock, Monday, November 13th at Greenbrier United Methodist Church Cemetery, 681 Greenbrier Mossydale Rd, Winnsboro, with the Rev. Jay Perez officiating. The family will greet friends after the service. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
