Lawrence (Larry) Carl Kirkland, 80, of Columbia, died on Sunday, August 28th, 2022. Born on April 16th, 1942, in Douglas, GA, he was a son of the late Carl and Myrtle Barnes Kirkland. Mr. Kirkland was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church and graduated from Winthrop University with a bachelor's degree. He was employed for many years with Westinghouse as an engineer and assisting in communications throughout the world through ham radio. His spare time was dedicated to the church, listening to classical music, and spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann O'Steen Kirkland; daughter, Mandy Miller (Brian) of Blythewood; granddaughter, Hayley Miller; and grandson, Max Miller; grandaughter, Jessica Spivey (David); and great grandchildren Victoria, Parker and Peyton Spivey. He is also survived by his special friend, Miranda Whetstone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael David Kirkland; and daughter, Laura Margaret Kirkland.

The service for Mr. Kirkland will be held at 2 o'clock, Wednesday, August 31st, at Shandon United Methodist Church, 3407 Devine Street in Columbia. Interment will follow in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends following the service at the church in the Wesley Fellowship Hall. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
