Lawrence Edward Price, 85, of Columbia, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023. Born in Johnson City, Tennessee, on July 14, 1937, he was the son of the late Thurman Price and Johnnie Massey Price. Lawrence was the husband to his loving wife of 64 years, Marjorie Ballentine Price.
Lawrence was a proud graduate of Columbia High School in Columbia, SC. At 18 years of age, he enlisted in the Air National Guard where he attained the rank of Airman First Class. He was activated to serve at Moron Air Base, Spain for 11 months during the Berlin Crisis. While serving in the Air National Guard, he was awarded the Exceptional Service Medal. Lawrence retired after 43 years as a customer service specialist at General Electric which later became Philips Components. After retirement, he worked for 6 years as a bailiff at the Lexington County Courthouse.
A devout Christian, Lawrence and his family were long time members of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. They also attended Calvary Chapel. He and Marjorie were members of the Christian Motorcyclist Association where they loved witnessing for our Lord, Jesus Christ, Lawrence was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a great friend to many.
In addition to his wife, Marjorie Ballentine Price, Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Lorraine Price of Columbia.
The funeral service for Mr. Price will be held at 2 o'clock on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 1416 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC 29210. A committal service will follow at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church Cemetery, 407 St. Andrew's Road, Columbia, SC, 29210. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel is assisting the Price family.
