LCDR Charles West Jacocks III, US Navy (Ret.), 86, of Columbia, died on Sunday, February 4, 2024. Born in Columbia, SC, on February 12, 1937, he was a son of the late Charles West Jacocks, Jr., and Helen Fewell Jacocks. He was a graduate of Dreher High School and later graduated from the University of South Carolina having earned a bachelor's degree in business. Mr. Jacocks served 20 years in the US Navy Reserves. He wedded in June of 1959 and enjoyed a long, successful marriage of 64 years to Marcia Wells Jacocks.
His professional career spanned over 4 decades and began as a lineman for Southern Bell that later became management positions and ultimately a district manager and later lobbyist for BellSouth phone company. Prior to his retirement, hard work and dedication ultimately led to the opportunity to be the spokesman for BellSouth Telephone Company.
Free time was spent golfing, Gamecock sports, boating on the lake, building and general outdoor activities. He enjoyed photography, baseball and football. A good story always began at a cocktail party and Charlie will be remembered for his gregarious, friendly and outgoing personality.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his sons, Dr. Charles West Jacocks, IV (Carrie), Dr. Mitchell W. Jacocks, Sr. (Ramona) and William Mason Jacocks (Melissa); grandchildren, Dr. Charles Edward Jacocks (Holly), Richard West Jacocks (Meghan), James Preston Jacocks, Ann Grace Jacocks, M. Wells Jacocks, Jr. (Sarah), Cantey Mason Jacocks, Preston Thomas Jacocks, Hannah Diane Jacocks; as well as his great-grandchildren, Aden, Owen, Graham, Katherine and Henry Jacocks.
The service for Mr. Jacocks will be held at 1:30 o'clock, Thursday, February 8th, at St. John's Episcopal Church, with Rector Nicholas Beasley officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the Barr Center of the church beginning at 12 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
