Obituary

Leland Van Lowery, 73, embraced by the love of his family, left this world on May 17, 2022, to be with our Heavenly Father where he is at peace and is fully healed.

Leland was born in Orange, Texas on October 20th, 1948 to the late William (Bill) Henry Lowery and Dorothy Rowena Lowery. They were a military family and he and his brother and sister took care of each other throughout their childhood. He spent most of this time and young adulthood in Texas, Mississippi, Connecticut and Charleston, SC. As a military brat, his 'Bubba' (brother Jerry) says that "No matter where they moved to, he was the one who made friends for the both of us." Having three children at a young age, with his first wife Carla, he began his greatest adventure of being a Father. Leland later met the love of his life, Judy Hall, and they were married in the Washington DC Temple. They had their first child together and later moved to Utah to have another four children.

Leland had many successful years in the Insurance industry and made providing for his family the top priority in his life. Leland loved the gospel and tried to always be an example of our Savior in the way he treated others. He held many callings in the LDS Church, including being in the Stake Mission Presidency, High Priest Group Leader, Activities Coordinator, Financial Clerk, and Sunday School teacher to name a few. One of his favorite memories was being involved in the South Carolina Bi-Centennial Celebration.

Leland was extremely patriotic, spiritual, intelligent and well read. His interests ranged from politics to physics and he had a special fascination with the supernatural and science fiction. He also enjoyed music, playing drums, dancing, reading and coin collecting. He was always on the lookout for a 1909-S VDB penny. He was hilarious, kind, and a generous man with a strong shoulder that he welcomed people to lean on. Leland was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Leland is survived by many loved ones: his wife and best friend, Judy Hall Lowery; his sons, Leland (Lan) Morris Lowery (Holly), Aaron Van Lowery, Spencer Blair Lowery, William Norman Lowery, and daughters, Christie Delaine Lowery, Allison Dawn Lowery, and Tara Lee Cooper (Scott); his siblings, William Gerald (Jerry) Lowery and Rita Marlene Smith. And he leaves behind a legacy of Grandchildren; Clarissa Angell Lowery, Harrison Van Lowery, Jonah Thomas Lowery, Kennedy Belle Cooper, Jacob Norman Lowery, and Reagan Lee Cooper. He was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents, and his son Randolph (Randy) DuRant Lowery, son of Carla DuRant Hartley and brother to Lan and Christie.
