Ms. Lillian McNeill Cox, 96, of Columbia, died Saturday, July 30, 2016. Born in Robeson County, NC, on December 27, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Alexander "Sandy" McNeill and Narcissus Johnson McNeill. Lillian was married to Alton Cox for 33 years, and she was a longtime member of Arsenal Hill Presbyterian Church, where she treasured the friendship and fellowship shared with the women of the church. A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind.


Lillian is survived by her daughter, Sandra Davis (Tom); granddaughters, Krista Englehardt (Malik), and Mara Englehardt; grandchildren, Ameela Malik, Nadia Malik, and Zara Malik; four step-grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; brother, William L. McNeill; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.


The service for Mrs. Cox will be held at 2 o'clock, Tuesday, August 2nd, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Dr., Columbia, with The Rev. Dr. John Bumgardner officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be dear friends, T.B. Roach, Ray Weible; and nephew, David Ramsey. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway 14th Floor, New York, NY, 10004; or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
