Lily Mae Elders, 94, left this life to be with her Lord Jesus on August 13, 2022. She passed away at her home surrounded by her beloved family.
A life-long resident of Eastover, SC she was the daughter of the late Robert "Rob" Addison and Marie Hinson Addison. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Charles M. Elders, son Bobby Elders, sisters Lucille Addison and Dot McKay, brother-in-law Archie McKay and son-in-law Raymond Jackson.
She is survived by her children, Susie Waddell (Jim), Margaret Rodgers, Jimmy Elders (Pat), Sherry Jackson, Randy Elders (JoEllen), Charles M. Elders, Jr., and Grace Matthews. She had eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren, her dog "Muffin" who was her constant companion and many friends who were adopted as family. She was "mama" or "grandmama" to almost everyone who met her.
Lily Mae was a member of McLeod United Methodist Church where she served on many committees, Sunday School teacher, choir member and always gave a helping hand to any church need. Lily Mae worked all her adult life while raising six children. She worked several years at Pennington Sewing Factory and more than 17 years at Square D (Schneider Electric) where she retired in 1990. Not one to be idle, she came out of retirement to work with her daughter at their restaurant "Margaret's Diner" for 13 years when she retired again at age 90. Lily Mae was a people person and she loved meeting and greeting everyone who came in the diner. She always made sure customers were well fed and service was above all.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice for their compassion and care. A very special thank you to Pastor Charles Wilson and Pastor Mike Hilliard who both visited and cared for her spiritually for several years.
The funeral service for Mrs. Elders will be held at 1 o'clock, Wednesday, August 17th, at McLeod United Methodist Church, 11640 Garners Ferry Rd, Eastover, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church beginning at 12 o'clock. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
