Obituary

Linda Reid Robinson, 69, of Columbia, SC died on May 25, 2015, at HarborChase of Columbia after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Linda was born January 1, 1946 in Durham, NC, a daughter of the late Ruby Roddey Reid and Thomas Peden Reid. Although born in Durham, Linda spent her childhood years in Asheville, NC and called Asheville home. She graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School, class of 1963. After graduation, Linda went to St. Genevieve-of-the-Pines school for secretaries. In 1967, Linda moved to Columbia, SC and began working as the Secretary for the Warden and Director of the South Carolina Department of Corrections. After several years in Columbia, she moved back to Asheville and began a career in the residential property management industry. Linda began her tenure with Carter-Haston in 1991 as a property manager in Columbia, SC. Her role expanded to include Regional Manager in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Linda was named a Senior Vice President of Carter-Haston in 2003. As Senior Vice President and a Regional Manager for the company, she had oversight responsibility for 2,500 apartment units located in North and South Carolina. She supervised a team of over 60 employees, including one Area Manager and 12 on-site property managers. She was a member of the Charlotte, Charleston and Columbia Apartment Associations. She was also a licensed Property Manager In Charge in South Carolina, as well as a Certified Property Manager Candidate with the Institute of Real Estate Management. Linda was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.

Linda worked at Carter-Haston for 22 years until she retired in 2013. Linda was loved by all of her colleagues at Carter-Haston and was described as "one of the main ingredients in Carter-Haston's secret sauce. She's that little bit of spice that livens up the party. She showed us how to work hard and play harder. Linda taught leadership by example and had a knack for bringing out the best in folks. She was regarded as the Mother of the company, teaching, training and guiding us with love. One and all, young, old, rich, or poor loved Linda. We used to tell her she was the glue that held us all together. And she was."

Linda's favorite place was at the beach with all of her family. Her children and grandchildren came first with Linda and Linda "loved her children more than life itself." Having lost their father at a young age, Linda, her mother and three sisters were the "Reid girls" - a close-knit force to be reckoned with who always had each other's backs and fiercely loved each other through the happy and the tough times. Linda also loved laughing and cutting up with her group of close girlfriends, whom she cherished deeply and affectionately called her "crazy girls." While she was an avid and talented gardener and loved to travel, more than anything Linda just liked to share a good laugh and have fun.

She is survived by her son Jeffrey Peden Keller (Caroline) of Savannah, Georgia; daughter Carole Robinson Brabham (Heyward) of Columbia; grandchildren Grace Peden Keller, Reid Evans Kizer Keller, Margaret "Rhett" Reid Brabham and Helen Peden Brabham. She is also survived by her sisters, Carole Anita Reid of Columbia, Pamela Reid Maney (Barry) of Columbia and Patricia Reid Ford (the late Richard Ford, Jr.) of Atlanta, Georgia and her beloved niece and nephews, Richard "Ricky" John Ford, III (Janet Ann), Allison Ford Haber (Jeff) and Jonathan Reid Maney.
The family extends many thanks of to all the caretakers and medical staff at HarborChase, with a special thanks to her Hospice nurse Karen Segars and Lisa Pittman and the other members of the Lutheran Hospice team for their kind and compassionate care of Linda.
