Obituary

Lois Stone Richbourg, 96, of Columbia, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2017. The service for Mrs. Richbourg will be held at 12:30 o'clock Saturday, February 18th at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Matt Yon officiating. A private burial will precede the service. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 4 until 6 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia.

Born in Seneca, SC on January 10, 1921, Mrs. Richbourg was the daughter of the late Walter Morris Stone and Nora Lee Cox Stone, and the wife of the late Raymond M. Richbourg. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister she will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and former member of Wesley Memorial Methodist and St. James United Methodist Churches, where she was very active in her earlier years serving wherever she was needed. Mrs. Richbourg enjoyed volunteering at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital for 22 years where she was awarded the Life Time Award for Volunteers. Even though she was legally blind, she continued to volunteer at the hospital until she was 92 years old. Additionally, she was an accomplished quilter, winning numerous awards at State Fair competitions throughout the years. Mrs. Richbourg's favorite hobby was gardening. She loved working in her flower beds and especially loved sharing her prized daylilies with others. For the past year and a half, she lived at the Rice Estate where she made many new friends, enjoyed visiting with others, participated in activities, and made newcomers feel welcome. Most importantly, though, her life was guided by her love for God and her family. The family wishes to acknowledge and express sincere appreciation to the staff and nurses of the Rice Estate and Palmetto Health Richland for their compassionate care and support.

Survivors include her children, Joe Richbourg (Janet) of Columbia, Carolyn Pregnall (Allan) of Blythewood; grandchildren, Andrew Richbourg, Emily Richbourg, Jennifer Jernigan (Chris), Chris Pregnall (Sarah); and five great granddaughters. Also surviving are her brothers, Angris Stone, Verlon Stone, and Walter M. Stone, Jr.; sister, Sara Jo Gordon; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Grady, Johnny, and Ernest Stone; sisters, Willie Mae Jones Frampton, Veda Grant Ackerman, Ellen Bowen; and a great grandson.

The family request memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 4600 Daniel Drive, Columbia, SC 29206.
