Louise Elizabeth "Betty" Harrison Spain, 92, of Columbia died Saturday, May 19, 2018. Born in Columbia on November 3, 1925, she was a daughter of the late William Benjamin Harrison and Eva Gaddy Harrison. A life-long resident of Columbia, Betty was a graduate of Dreher High School and later worked at Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Columbia.
Mrs. Spain is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Marian Spain Damour (Thomas) of Columbia and Sara Ginter Howard (Bill) of Costa Rica and Chapin; grandchildren, Megan Damour Hinson (William), Benjamin Newton Damour (Melissa), William P. Ginter (Keriann), Aimee Ginter Newsom (Josh), Betsy Williams Neeley (Brian), Matthew Henry Williams, Eva Kathleen Williams; great-grandchildren, Cole and Avery Neeley, Henry and Holly Hinson, Linsley and Harrison Ginter, Paisley Ann Damour, Evie and George Williams; sister, Marian Harrison Dieter (Robert L.) of Mt. Pleasant; and her niece and nephew, David Dieter (Mary Ann) and Laura Dieter McGregor (the late Patrick McGregor). In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spain was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Henry Spain; and her daughter, Paulette Spain Williams.
Mrs. Spain's family will receive friends from 11:30 until 12:30, Saturday, May 26, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Extension, Columbia. A graveside service will follow at 1 o'clock at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, 2603 Two Notch Road, Columbia.
