Obituary

Lt. Col. Robert L. Moore, US Air Force, (Ret.), 82, of Blythewood, died Tuesday, July 5, 2022. Born October 23, 1939, in Montgomery, Alabama, he was a son of the late John Henry Moore and Willie Mae Parker Moore.

He was a graduate of The University of Alabama where he earned his bachelor's degree. Lt. Col. Moore honorably served in the United States Air Force for 27 years and received many awards and commendations for his distinguished service to our country. Following his military career, he was employed by the South Carolina Department of Corrections. Bob was a dedicated member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Ridgeway, SC, where he enjoyed countless hours socializing with church family and attending church activities. Bob loved to read, complete crossword puzzles, and munch on his favorite snack, Goldfish Cheddar Bites. He was an avid sports fan who cheered on the University of Alabama, Atlanta Braves, and the University of South Carolina. Bob enjoyed studying his family heritage and was a member of The Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Survivors include his children, MSGT John K. Moore, USMC (Ret.), William P. "Perry" Moore (Melody), Rev. Richard Wayne Moore (Linda), Dr. Mary T. Moore Bivins (Drake), SFC Robert Michael Moore, US Army (Ret) (Malgorzata), Lisa Moore Bowling (Ron); grandchildren, Megan McGeorge (Josh), Second Lieutenant Tucker Langston, USMC (Rebekah), Hunter Moore, Hayden Moore, Michelle Douglass (Sam), Jacklyn Moore, Ethan Bivins; great grandchildren, Eliza Jane Langston, John Henry Langston, David Brien McGeorge; sister, Martha Moore Jackson; as well as his brother-in-law, Robert Neff Jones (Becky). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Virginia Jones Moore; his siblings, John H. Moore, Jr., William H. Moore, Thomas L. Moore, Dr. Perry Moore, Agnes E. Moore, Emily Marie Moore; and his grandchildren Robert Perry and Brandon Taylor Moore.

The funeral service for Lt. Col. Moore will be held at 10 o'clock Friday, July 8th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC 29223. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A reception will follow the burial at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Parrish Hall, 307 Longtown Road, Ridgeway, SC 29130.
