Lucile Arnold Smith Benton, 98, of Columbia, died Thursday, October 10, 2013. Born in Greenville, SC on June 25, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Abner Arnold and Pauline Marks Arnold Dixon. Lucile was a former member of Pisgah United Methodist Church, and a charter member of Fair Lawn United Methodist Church. She loved life, enjoyed dancing, and never met a stranger. Lucile had worked at Reid's Hat Shop, as well as Belk's and Macy's.

Survivors include her children, Brenda Smith Jones of Columbia, M. Brian Smith of Camden and Cynthia Purtee of Columbia; grandchildren, Michelle A. Sieh of Sacramento, CA, Tiffany Vogts of Ft. Wayne, IN and M. Brian Smith, Jr. of Elgin; nine great grandchildren; and a brother, Marks (Edna G.) Arnold of Greer, SC. In addition to her parents, Lucile was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin B. Smith; second husband, Constance Benton; and a brother, Caswell Arnold.

The funeral service for Mrs. Benton will be held 11 o'clock, Monday, October 14th, at Fair Lawn United Methodist Church, with The Rev. Scott Bratton officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church prior to the service, beginning at 10 o'clock.
