Lula McCraw (Taw) Gay Duncan died Tuesday, November 15, 2016.
Taw was born in Jackson, NC on May 7, 1925 to Lula McCraw Price and Eugene John Gay, Jr. She and her mother moved to Warrenton, NC after the death of her father in 1937. Taw attended local schools and graduated from John Graham High School, and four years later, the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, which, at that time, was the Women's College of the University of North Carolina. She was married to William Holt Duncan for 51 years until his death in 2001. Prior to making their home in Columbia, they lived in Raleigh, NC. Taw worked for the Episcopal Diocese in both North Carolina and South Carolina. She was a member of the St John's Episcopal Church and the Colonial Dames of South Carolina, and formerly a member of the Junior League of Columbia and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Taw is predeceased by her husband. She leaves behind three daughters, Mary Reynolds Duncan, Elizabeth Holt Duncan Powers (Paul), all of Columbia, and Lula McCraw Duncan Cromwell (William) of Austin, Texas; three granddaughters, Lockey Boyd Powers Plyler (Adam) of Columbia, Kate Duncan Cromwell Griffin (Bret) and Sarah Hale Cromwell Sheppard (Avery) of Houston, Texas.
Visitation will be at the family home on Woodland Drive. A memorial service will be held 11 o'clock, Friday, November 18th at St John's Episcopal Church, Wheat Street. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Warrenton, NC, at 11 o'clock Saturday morning. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
