Lyl Montgomery Brackett, 70, of Lexington, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 surrounded by her children. Born on March 24, 1954, in Charlotte, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lewis Montgomery and the late Mary Alice Montgomery.
Lyl grew up in Lancaster, South Carolina, graduating from Spartanburg Methodist College. She taught preschool, serving as director of the preschool at First Baptist Church in Clover, South Carolina. Later, Lyl taught preschool in Aiken, South Carolina. Lyl's greatest love was to be with her children and grandchildren. She was known to make fast friends with anyone, most recently with many staff and residents where she lived at Lexington Extended Care.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth "David" Brackett; two daughters, Allison Rapp (Jason), and Emily Brackett (Harrison Boyd, Fiancé), grandchildren (Daniel and Landon Rapp); sisters Marilyn Lee Montgomery and Mary M. Bouknight (Mike); and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Henry Lewis Montgomery, Jr.
The memorial service for Mrs. Brackett will be held at 2 o'clock, Wednesday, December 4th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, Columbia, with the Rev. Joey Huggins officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1 o'clock, for family and friends to gather.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Lexington Medical Center Foundation for benefit of Lexington Medical Extended Care, Attn Amy Lanier, 2720 Sunset Blvd, West Columbia, South Carolina 29169, in loving memory of Mrs. Lyl Montgomery Brackett.
