Mack A. Windham, 76, of Columbia, died Saturday, May 6, 2017. Born June 13, 1940, in Sumter, he was a son of the late James McDowell Windham and Alma Louise Troublefield Windham.
Mack grew up in Sumter and attended the University of South Carolina. He joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Germany, and served as a Russian linguist. He was a homebuilder and was the past chairman of the Remodelers Council of Greater Columbia and Remodeler of the Year in 1994. He was also a talented musician who played in many bands, including the Dardenelles, and was the lead singer for the Shoreline band. Mack was introduced into the Beach Shaggers National Hall of Fame and Living Legends in 2004. He was also a member of the OD Pavilion Boys in the Band in 2010. Mack was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his loving wife, Charlene; children, Lane and Leah Windham; grandchildren, Marie, Kandace, Shane, Chandler, and Kayce; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Dorothy Roberts, Betty LeGrand, Leah Talton (Alfred); brother, Julius Windham; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lauren Windham; and brothers, James Windham, twins William and Albert Windham, Paul Windham and Bobby Windham.
The service for Mr. Windham will be held 11 o'clock, Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church with Dr. Dale Welden officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 o'clock. Burial in Sumter Cemetery will be private. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
