Obituary

Maj Franklin Charles Bordeaux, III, US Air Force (Ret.), 83, of Columbia, died Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Born April 2, 1939, in Columbia, he was a son of the late Franklin Charles Bordeaux, Jr. and Lillian Bernice Hattchell Bordeaux.

Frank graduated from Batesburg-Leesville High School and then attended Clemson University, where he participated in the Air Force ROTC. Following his sophomore year in college, he commissioned into the US Air Force. Frank would honorably serve his country as a pilot and navigator for more than 20 years until his retirement in 1979. During his military career he received many meritorious service commendations and completed numerous rotations around the world. After multiple relocations of his family across the United Sates, he left active duty and completed his remaining service contract in the USAF Reserves. Following his retirement, Frank would open and run Bordeaux Construction while living in south Texas. Later upon his and his wife's return to SC, Frank would take on a civilian role for the USAF as Range Operations Officer at Poinsette Weapons Range, Shaw Air Force Base.

Frank also achieved the designation of Eagle Scout and volunteered his time over many summers as a counselor at Camp Barstow, a BSA Camp in Leesville, SC. Frank was a member of the Los Fresnos, Texas Lions Club and served as a City Commissioner. He was an active member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. Frank also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities, traveling with his wife and beach weekends at their vacation place in Cherry Grove.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Bordeaux; children, Franklin Charles "Chuck" Bordeaux, IV of Irmo and Jennifer Bordeaux Powlas of Chapin; grandchildren, Trey McMillon-Bordeaux (Layla), Amanda Bordeaux, Adam Powlas (fiancé, Sarah), Chase Bordeaux, and Anna Powlas Beline (Nick). He is also survived by his former daughter-in-law and Amanda and Chase's mother, Wendy Bordeaux of Irmo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert "Bobby" Bordeaux.

The graveside service for Maj Bordeaux will be held at 3 o'clock Friday, December 2, 2022, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC with Rev. Dr. Ellen Fowler Skidmore officiating.
