Maj. Robert L. Farrington, US Army, (Ret.), 83, of Columbia, died Sunday, November 29, 2015. Born March 17, 1932 in Attleboro, MA, to the late George Baker and Dorothy Ward Farrington, he was a retired Major in the US Army. He was awarded three Bronze Stars, was a member of the Military Officers Association of America, Military Order of World Wars, and the Special Military Active Recreational Travelers Club. Robert was a life member of the SC Locksmith Association as well as a member of St. Michael and All Angels' Episcopal Church.
Surviving are his wife, Joy Farrington; daughter, Shelley Sharpe (Samuel); and granddaughter, Stephanie Sharpe, all of Columbia; and step-daughters, Jennifer Scarborough of Columbia, Cynthia Jenkins of Atlanta, and Catherine Caton of Clifton, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dena Brown Farrington; and a brother, George Baker Farrington.
Visitation will be Friday, December 11, 2015 from 6 until 7 o'clock at St. Michael and All Angels' Episcopal Church. A memorial service, officiated by The Rev. Jill Zook-Jones, will be held 10 o'clock, at the church, on Saturday, December 12th with a reception following in Sturtevant Hall.
Burial with military honors will be 10 o'clock at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Monday, December 14th. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road, Chapel is assisting the family.
