Maj. Robert Curtis "Bob" McCarthy II US Army (Ret), 70, of Columbia, died Thursday, September 15, 2016. Born February 14, 1946, in Seattle, Washington, he was the eldest child of Major Robert Curtis and Lucille June Zimmer McCarthy.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Jan Potter McCarthy of 46 years; his beloved children, Robert C. McCarthy, III (Marci), Catherine Virginia Hutasuhut (Muhammad), and Vincent Franklin McCarthy (Dana); cherished grandchildren, Virginia Ann, Alex and Olivia McCarthy and Potter and Noah Hutasuhut; sister, Margaret McCarthy Hunt (Dickie); and brothers, Gene McCarthy (Becky) and Patrick McCarthy (Betty). Also surviving are a multitude of dear nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
An avid Georgia Bulldog football fan, model rail roader and woodworker, Bob will be enjoying the football season with the best view in town.
The celebration of life for Mr. McCarthy will be held at 3 o'clock, Friday, October 21st at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 1541 lake Murray Blvd, Irmo. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
