Maj. James Pascal Epley, Jr., US Air Force (Ret.), 76, of Columbia, passed away on August 29, 2024. Born in Fort Leavenworth, Kanas, on April 8, 1948, he was a son of the late James Pascal Epley, Sr. and Anna B. Souter. He was a devout member of St. Martin's in-the-Fields Episcopal Church.
Maj. Epley graduated from Dentsville High School and earned his Master of Business Administration from Golden Gate University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Airforce and achieved the rank of Major with 25 years of active service. After his retirement from the Air Force, he went back to school in the field of Information Technology and worked at Policy Management Systems Corporation. He later worked at Midlands Technical College as a Senior Database Administrator and Program Manager and fully retired after 13 years in December 2014. Jim loved music and sang and played acoustic guitar for the Still Hopes Alzheimer's Unit.
Survivors include his loving wife of 29 years, Patty Lambert Epley; sister, Shirlyn E. Epley of Charlotte, NC; nephew, Christoper Steven Epley of Olympia, WA; aunt, Janice Souter of Tulsa, OK; cousin, Deann Souter of Tulsa, OK; and his beloved Australian shepherd, Finn. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Steven Epley and Wanda Lea Epley.
The Memorial Service for Maj. Epley will be held at 12:30 o'clock on Thursday, September 5th, at St. Martin's-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, 5220 Clemson Ave, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the reception. Interment will take place at 3 o'clock at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
