Obituary

Margaret (Peggy) Morgan Tarr, 81, of Columbia, died Thursday, February 8, 2024. Born August 18, 1942, in Savannah, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Margaret McLeod Morgan and John William Morgan, Jr.

Peggy attended Columbia schools and was a graduate of Dreher High School, class of 1960. In 1964, she graduated from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She retired from the South Carolina Department of Social Services in 2010. Peggy enjoyed many years of international travel as well as adventures throughout the United States with her "Travel Ladies". She loved to read and was an avid bridge player. Many afternoons, "Peggy's Pub" was open on her patio to friends and neighbors. But her very best times were spent with family, especially making memories with her grandchildren! She was a long-time member of Shandon United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her three sons, David Bennett Tarr (Brittany), John Daniel Tarr (Darcy), and William McLeod Tarr (Rae-Ann); grandchildren, William Bennett Tarr, Mason William Tarr, Owen Edward Tarr, Isabel Morgan Tarr, and Madolyn Margaret Tarr; her brother, John William Morgan, III (Corinne); nephews, Thomas Morgan and Robert Morgan; Harold Tarr, the father of her children; and many lifelong friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Jay Morgan.

The memorial service for Mrs. Tarr will be held at 4 o'clock, Monday, February 12th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC with the Rev. Smoke Kanipe officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be held at a later date in Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Georgia.
