Obituary

Margaret "Margot" Elizabeth Parker Smith, 88, of Columbia, SC, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024. Born January 31, 1936, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jemima and Alan Parker.

Margot was a 1953 graduate of Germantown High in Philadelphia, PA. She went on to get her nursing degree in 1956 from Chestnut Hill Hospital. She married her husband Carl in 1957 and was a stay at home wife and mother, moving around a lot during his military career. She resumed her career as a Registered Nurse at Baptist Hospital in Columbia when her children were in high school. Her last job as an RN was in Oncology followed by Hospice nursing.

Her greatest joy in life was her husband of 64 years Carl and her family. She especially enjoyed family dinners and celebrations. She was an avid reader, enjoyed sewing, playing bridge and having lunch with friends. She and Carl loved to dance (shag) and were long time members of the Sarabande Dinner Dance Club. They also traveled frequently with a group of friends, mainly to the Caribbean. Being of Scottish-English decent she was a member of The Robert Burns Scottish Club and particularly enjoyed her afternoon tea time. She was a devout Christian who served her Lord as a member of St. Michael and All Angels' Episcopal Church for 50 years. She was a member of the altar guild, the church yard committee, a Eucharistic visitor and arranged flowers for the Altar.

She is survived by, her daughter, Melinda P. Sarvis (Bob); grandchildren, Savannah Kruzner (David Perez), Alex Kruzner, Sean Kruzner (Katri Hietman), and Anna Lee Smith; great granddaughter, Adrien Kruzner; brother, John "Jack" A. Parker; and daughter-in-law, Quenna Smith.


In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by, her husband, LTC Carl R. Smith US Army (Ret); her son, David Carl Smith and her brother, William "Bill" S. Parker.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Lexington Medical Center Foundation, 2720 Sunset Boulevard, West Columbia, SC 29169.
A graveside service will be held on August 1, 2024 at eleven o'clock at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC.
