Obituary

Margaret H. Taylor, 95, of Columbia, died June 18, 2024. Mrs. Taylor was born Annie Margaret Hazel on November 22, 1928. She had fond memories of a childhood spent in rural Newberry, watched over by her loving parents, Henry Claude Hazel and Sara Frances Counts Hazel. The family moved to Columbia when she was 11, where she eventually met the dashing George Louis Taylor. George and Margaret were married for 72 years before his passing in 2023.

Margaret graduated from Columbia High School before working as a bookkeeper for Hiller Hardware and Investors Diversified Services. A long-time member of Reformation Lutheran Church, she served as a Sunday School teacher and treasurer for many years. She recalls those days as some of the happiest of her life. A self-taught pianist, Margaret spent many hours playing classic hymns. She loved working in her yard growing irises, fruit and vegetables. Her family was her whole world.
