Margaret Cherry Alsbrooks Winegard, 81, of Columbia, wife of the late Raymond Milton Winegard, Sr., passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Rice Estates in Columbia. Born March 18, 1942, in New Orleans, Louisiana, she was a daughter of the late Reverend and Mrs. Charlie Clifton Alsbrooks.

Cherry was a graduate of North Greenville University and later earned her master's degree in early childhood education from the University of South Carolina. Cherry was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She taught hundreds of children to read and touched their lives as a first-grade teacher at Hammond School for 29 years. Cherry enjoyed working in her yard and reading, but her greatest love was her family, especially her sisters and grandchildren. She was a devoted member of Shandon Baptist Church.

Survivors include her three children, Raymond M. Winegard, Jr. (Donna) of Florence, SC, Renee W. Adams (Lee) of Columbia, and Jason T. Winegard (Margarett) of Columbia; grandchildren, Jack Adams (Kristen), Maggie Adams (Jeff Godwin), Elizabeth Winegard, Fletcher Winegard, Ray Winegard, and Wyatt Winegard. She is also survived by her sisters, Orilee Evington (Max) and Patricia Vaughn (James), as well as her sister-in-law, Francine Alsbrooks. In addition to her parents and husband of 42 years, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charlie Clifton Alsbrooks.

The funeral service for Mrs. Winegard will be held at 2 o'clock on Friday, July 7th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock. A private burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
