Maria Margarete Schmöll Barnes, 83, of Columbia, went home to be with the Lord Monday, September 16, 2013. Born in Münich, Germany, February 19, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Karl and Katie Seiwald Schmöll. A registered nurse and former employee of Honeywell, Inc., Maria was a member of the Fruit of the Spirit Christian Fellowship. She loved playing bingo with her "bingo buddies" and remained very active with the Capital Seniors Center Senior Bingo Group, Fort Jackson Victory Bingo, and Seven Oaks Recreation Center. In addition to enjoying bingo, Maria volunteered for 18 years with Christ Central Ministries.

Survivors include her daughters, Frances (Ron) Smith, Cathy Barnes, Ann Tankersley-Briggs (Dickie); sons, Willard R. Barnes, Jr. and Jimmy Barnes; grandchildren, Christina Marie Barnes, Brandon Alan Tankersley, Kayla Tankersley Nichols, Pam (Donald) Clamp; and great grandson, DavidLee Clamp. In addition to her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Willard R. Barnes, Sr.; and son, Billy Fennell Barnes.

The memorial service for Mrs. Barnes will be held 6 o'clock, Thursday, September 19th, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Dr, Columbia, with Bishop Kevin Nelson officiating.
