Maria Victoria Drewes Hartness, 84, of Columbia, died Wednesday, October 17, 2018. Born in Chicago, IL on February 14, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Hannah Kerstner Drewes. She attended Lee College in Cleveland, TN earning a bachelor's degree. Maria worked for Southern Bell as an operations manager and loved to paint. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and a member of Elmwood Avenue Church of God.

Survivors include her sons, David Hartness (Sandra) and Danny Hartness (Dawn); daughter, Brenda Hartness; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and sisters, Lorretha Quinting, Barbara Cowell, and Ruthie Robinson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Hartness; and a son, Stephen Hartness.

The funeral service for Mrs. Hartness will be held 3 o'clock, Monday, October 22nd, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. Burial will follow the service in Memorial Gardens of Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock.
