Marie Sarah Barnes Brant, 92, of Columbia, died Thursday, April 25, 2013. Born April 11, 1921 in Lodge, SC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas A. Barnes and Hattie Carter Barnes. Mrs. Brant was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia.

Survivors include her sons, Edwin (Vicki) Black of Oak Island, NC, and Dennis Black of Columbia; a daughter, Diane McAteer of Columbia; a brother, James Barnes of Lodge; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie F. Brant, and a son, Bobby Lee Black.

The funeral service for Mrs. Brant will be held at 12 o'clock, Monday, April 29th at Little Swamp United Methodist Church, Hwy 362, Smoaks, SC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends are invited to greet the family prior to the funeral service beginning at 11 o'clock. The visitation will be held from 4 until 6 Sunday afternoon at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia with a prayer service to follow.
