Marie Hodges Casper, 78, of Blythewood, South Carolina, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, May 7th from complications related to a recent health condition. Born March 23, 1947, in Savannah, Georgia, she was the eldest daughter of the late Claude & Virginia Hodges of Garden City, Georgia.

Marie graduated from Groves High School in Garden City, Georgia in 1964 and attended Georgia Baptist Nursing School in Atlanta, where she graduated with a nursing degree in 1967. After graduation, she began her career in healthcare, which spanned over five decades. She worked as a nurse at St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia for a number of years, rising to the position of Vice President of Nursing. Following her time at Candler, Marie worked as a Heart Care Specialist at Memorial Medical Center Hospital in Savannah before finishing her career as a sales representative for Merck Pharmaceuticals, from which she retired in 2010.

Marie was devoted to her family in more ways than can be remembered. She was a loving mother, wife, aunt, daughter, sister, and friend. She loved spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who she loved spoiling endlessly. She was always willing to tell you her opinion, whether you wanted to hear it or not, and she was usually right. She will be missed for her heart, her caring support, her sincerity, and all the ways she gave of herself.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Yoder Casper; her three sons Eric Raymond Casper, Whitney Brooks Casper (Allison), and Drew Hodges Casper (Leeanne); her four grandchildren, Tillman and Wrenley Casper, Landon and Riley Casper; her brother, Lawrence Hodges (Debbie); her sister, Ginger Jory (Doug), and other loving family and friends. Marie is predeceased by her parents.

Services for Marie will be held on Saturday, June 7th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel in Columbia, South Carolina (7600 Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC, 29223). Visitation with the family will begin at 11:00 AM and her memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM. Family and friends in attendance are welcome to attend a celebratory luncheon immediately following the memorial service.
