Marie Cleveland Sabbagha, 88, died on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. She was born on November 10, 1935 in Danburg, Georgia. She was a daughter of the late John C. and Ovalene Fain Cleveland.
Mrs. Sabbagha was preceded in death by her husband, Philip C. Sabbagha; brothers, Winfred Cleveland, G.W. Cleveland, F.M. "Pete" Cleveland; and sisters, Myrtle Couch, Parthinnia Bush, Lizzie Mae Jeter, Fannie Lou Smyser, and Effie Hoffman.
Mrs. Sabbagha is survived by her sons, Shickre Sabbagha and James Sabbagha, both of Columbia; daughter, Effie Howe (Carl), of Irmo; grandchildren, Philip Howe, Elizabeth Sabbagha, Samuel Sabbagha, Erica Shelton (Jaered), Tyler Howe (Holly), and Cody Bach; great grandchildren, Aidan Shelton, Piper Shelton, Delaney Shelton, Collins Howe, and Payton Howe; and brother, Roy Cleveland (Lucille) of Johnston, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Sabbagha was a dedicated and loving homemaker after beginning a successful career in sales and management at W. T. Grant's. She was loving, kind, patient, brave, and fiercely independent. Mrs. Sabbagha enjoyed being with family, spending time at the lake, cooking, and playing card games. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren who brought her much joy. She was an excellent cook and perfected many Lebanese dishes.
Mrs. Sabbagha was a member of Shandon Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on numerous church committees for over fifty years.
Services will be held at 3 o'clock, Sunday, September 15th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia with the Rev. Joey Huggins officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sabbagha's nephews, Robert Blokus, Roy Cleveland, Jr., Scotty Cleveland, Chris King, Lenzy King, and Michael Norris, will serve as her pallbearers.
